Portland, Oregon - Unaffected and Unblemished

Portland, Oregon is a major in America's west coast but it has remained unaffected by development and unblemished by too much urbanization. Yes, it has structures that modernity brings but it has lots of nature to offer.

Don't be deceived by the seeming bustling metropolis once you step on the city. They are just the icing on the cake, so to speak. Of course, there should be edifices to house different offices on both sides of the Hood River but there is more to them than meets the eye.

The Mt. Hood River, the Forest Park and other virginal spots dot most of the city. Just like what I mentioned earlier, the buildings in the city can be deceiving. These are but some of more than what the eyes meet.

Since Portland is nearer to Asia, it has allotted spaces for the Japanese Garden and the Lan Su Chinese Garden. The beautifully-maintained gardens are a fitting tribute to the growing Asian population in the city and in the state.

As if the two are not enough, Portland also has the International Rose Toast Garden and the National Sanctuary of the Sorrowful Mother which has a grotto in its midst. These show that Portland is vast and varied.

The city's proximity to Washington state makes it an extension of coffee shops that you can find in suburban Seattle. Almost in every corner or street, you can find a Starbucks Coffee, Seattle's Best Coffee or Stumptown Coffee Roasters almost side by side or in  front of each other.

Roaming around Portland is not as hard as in other American cities. The street layout is easy. One can easily find his way around. The people are friendly and accommodating. Driving was such a delight in their not-so-complicated environment.

It has museums for those who appreciate art and science. The Portland Art Museum and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry are must-see places when in the city. Both offer alternative scenes away from the hustle and bustle of the city and from nature.

When in Oregon, Portland is a city where you will feel safe and at ease. Development is something inevitable but it has remained unaffected and unblemished all these years. In the short stay I made there, i yearn to go back and enjoy its scenery.

The Waters that Surround Hawaii May Be Blue but Honolulu is Definitely Red

Honolulu is the capital city of the state of Hawaii in the United States of America. Located at the southeast coast of the island of O'ahu, the name of the city means "sheltered harbor" or "calm port." Just like any other American city, Honolulu is busy and life there is flaming red.

Whether from the mountain or from the sea, Honolulu has a stunning aerial view. Buildings add to the beauty of the city. But I can just imagine how beautiful it was during the olden days with the structures back then (some of which are still preserved in the whole city).

Just like any other modern city in the world, Honolulu has its share of tall buildings that makes it more cosmopolitan. But when I was there, even if there were tall structures around, there was always that Hawaiian atmosphere that you can only feel and experience there.

No wonder, it is one of the most visited cities on earth. I, myself, is a witness to that. When I arrived in Honolulu, there were a lot of flights that arrived at the time of our arrival and there were lots of tourists that visited the city from all over the globe.

With its many visitors, I think that the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport needs an upgrade to cater to the needs of the growing number of tourists. Its sea port is also as busy as its air counterpart. Growth is part of a beautiful city such as Honolulu and its facilities upgrade is necessary.

One thing that I noticed is the use of old structures for government offices. This is one way of preserving historical edifices and, at the same time, making use of them for important service-oriented offices. This way, culture is still rich and history is kept.

Wherever we go in the world, malls have become part of any country's culture. Honolulu has its Ala Moana Center which caters to all kinds of markets. They have affordable stores as well as high-end brands for everyone's shopping delight. The International Market Place is another option for locals and tourists as well.

Aside from swimming in the beaches of Honolulu, surfing is a reason for visiting the city. With the high waves from the Pacific Ocean, it really is an ideal surfing place. Mountain trekking is also a popular activity to appreciate the city more from the view above.

But whatever reason may be, a visit to Honolulu is a must once in someone's lifetime. For me, I will be back to this lovely city. The Filipinos there are even more hospitable. I felt that my 10-day stay was so short. Never there was a dull moment especially that I was able to meet new friends. Yes, the waters around Honolulu may be blue but the city is as red as can be.

The City of Angels Called Los Angeles

Los Angeles, as its name suggests, is called the city of angels. For me, it is an angel of a city. Just like any other major city in the United States of America, it offers almost everything. It is another city that does not sleep. Action is open 24/7.

With a city as big as Los Angeles, governing it is definitely horrific. With lots of people from different races and walks of life, it is amazing that the city government is able to maintain its stronghold as a major contributor to the country's economy.

It is a city that is very homey in feel. Though vast in land area, it seems that the city is a place where you can live and work with much ease and comfort just like its image...casual yet chic. It is a vibrant place that offers amenities that locals and tourists enjoy.

Los Angeles is also called the entertainment capital of America. Disneyland has a vast property there. Hollywood also calls the city home. Big stars reside in some of the posh communities in Los Angeles. It is ordinary to see showbiz personalities in the whole city.

Familiar venues are just part of the city everyday life. The Los Angeles Memorial Stadium is where two summer olympics were hosted. Universal Studios holds office in Los Angeles. Obviously, it is a haven of the stars.

Given another chance to visit Los Angeles, I would not have second thoughts. How can I go wrong with a city of angels. Besides, I have two sisters who live there.

I leave everything to ones imagination. A trip to Los Angeles is must for one's lifetime.
