The Philippines' City of Angels - Angeles City

Angeles City is an independent city in the Province of Pampanga. It is highly-urbanized dubbed as the City of Angels. It is a 1st class city that is continually progressing. Angeles City is one of the most go-to places outside Metro Manila.

Thanks to the effective management by the current as well as past administrations, the city has maintained its image of a bustling enclave not only for gastronomic purposes but for those who want to retire and make it their home.

With all the amenities that one can enjoy in a big metropolis like Metro Manila, Angeles City has its share of shopping places not only for the local but for foreign tourists as well. Big malls as well as their local counterparts enjoy good business since the city is a melting pot of coming from the whole province as well as neighboring towns and cities.

Kapampangans and Angelenos are known to be good cooks. It is of no wonder why there is a proliferation of good restaurants that serve to clients of varied tastes. Aling Luzing's is known to be the best sisig maker in town. The Nepo Quad offers a wide array of restaurants that people can enjoy. Food parks are also being built such as the Muceno Open Food Park for everyone's delight.

The Tigtigan Terakan Queng Dalan is an annual food and booze festival that is usually celebrated coinciding with the city's fiesta and is usually held in the Balibago District which is the main artery going to the city center.

With the influx of tourists to the city due to its proximity to the Clark International Airport, hotels have mushroomed these past years. With the opening of the new airport to accommodate more tourists, Angeles City answers the call for the need to add more hotel rooms.

Being the center of everything in the province, it is to no surprise that it is also an educational hub. The City College of Angeles, Holy Angel University and Angeles University Foundation are but some of the best in terms of education. There are other schools, colleges and universities that have main campuses in the city.

The Angeles City Hall, the Angeles City Hall of Justice and the Angeles Medical Center have been upgraded to serve the people more effectively and efficiently. These are just three of the many improvements done by the city for the service of its people.

The Angeles Heritage District is one of the many attractions of the city. It is where the Sto. Rosario Church, Museo ning Angeles and the Museum of Philippine Social History (formerly Pamintuan Mansion) can be found.

A must-visit in the area is the Clark Freeport Zone where many multinational companies and resorts are headquartered. Another interesting place to go to is the Korea Town where many Korean-owned establishments have opened up. The Samgyupsal restaurants are must-trys.

In the field of fashion, I am friends with three of the best Kapampangans in the industry. Philip Torres is the proponent of Pidayit fashion. Marlon Tuazon is the double winner of the first Ternocon sponsored by Bench. Manny Ocampo is one of the city's prolific bridal and debutante designers.

Soon to rise is the Rockwell Center Nepo which will have many facilities and amenities that will be enjoyed by Angelenos. There is already the Newpoint Center where a mall and several call center offices are housed.

With all these, Angeles City is not just a city of angels. It is a haven for everyone who wants to enjoy the good life.

A Charming California City Named Pinole

Pinole is a charming city in California which is part of the Bay Area. It is located in the banks of the San Francisco Bay and is just a few miles away from the big city of San Francisco. It is my second home away from home for I stay with my relatives whenever I am in the west coast.

I cannot blame my aunts in residing there because it is a homey place. Its surrounds are mostly residential houses and it is a city which offers peace and comfort after a hard day's work in nearby San Francisco.

Of course, as in any other cities in America, it has its shopping area that cater to the daily and special needs of its people. Since it is near to other cities in the Bay Area, it is also easy to travel from Pinole to other places for shopping purposes.

There are many places of leisure in the city. There is the Pinole 10 Cinemas for moviephiles. There is also the Pinole Swim Center for waterholics. Children also have the Pinole Valley Park which has lots of playground space to enjoy.

The effective city management by its elected officials makes the city really livable. Its people feel secured knowing that they are well-guarded 24/7. It is one of the first cities in America to have CCTV cameras installed in the whole of Pinole thereby preventing serious crimes to be committed.

One sound that makes Pinole unique is the sound of trains passing by. It is music to the ears of its residents as well as visitors like me. The mere sight of the San Francisco Bay and the City of San Francisco itself are scenes to be cherished.

After this pandemic is over, it would be nice to visit relatives again and be charmed by this city by the bay. Of the many times that I have visited Pinole, I would not get tired of enjoying its environs aside, of course, enjoying the company of my maternal aunts.

Musings on San Rafael, Bulacan

San Rafael, Bulacan is in the western side of the province and is one of the exciting places to visit especially during summer. It offers a wide array of places to see and enjoy. With its vast land area, it is of no wonder the it has lots of things to offer.

Of late, San Rafael has been visited by tourists for its river adventure which offers glamping activities. Glamping is short for glamorous camping. The town being at the banks of the Angat Dam-River, it took advantage of the scenery to promote this kind of activity. Now, it has other amenities for everyone of all ages to enjoy.

A baywalk at the banks of the Angat Dam-River is a refreshing area where people can stroll during the day. The 8 Waves Waterpark and Hotel is also located in San Rafael. It is a go-to resort where people can enjoy the beach in a non-beach setting complete with simulated waves.

Blessed with nice surroundings and lush greenery, the town is home to Royal Northwoods Golf and Country Club where those who enjoy the fairways can putt their golf clubs to their desire. It also has residential houses that cater to those who want to enjoy a life of peace and quiet.

But despite the modernity the is evident in any place, San Rafael still has that homey feel. Going around the town, you will discover that it has maintained its old mystique which makes it more interesting to discover.

Its San Juan de Dios Church was declared as an Important Cultural Property by the National Museum. It is the organizer of the annual Angel Festival celebrated every last week of September. It is one of the most anticipated festivals in Luzon and has gained a good number of followers.

Aside from the orchid farms that have sprouted in San Rafael, there are also a number of dragonfruit farms that were established by enterprising San Rafaelenos. Mostly, these farms are located in Barangay Capihan.

One of the recent discoveries in San Rafael is the Tukod Cave which has a natural church which is called the Simbahang Bato. It is located in a cluster of caves and rock formations in Barangay Tukod. Another one of must-visit areas in town.

With the many schools set up in San Rafael, it is considered as an educational center in the area. Bulacan Polytechnic College has a campus in town. St. Paul College is a popular private school which offers quality education for those who would want to be educated by a catholic school.

With the effective and efficient leadership of the local government officials, it has thrusted the town towards greater development and made San Rafael a fast-becoming important municipality in the province.

Personally, I will continue remembering San Rafael as quaint and unaffected by its seeming development. I will forever instill in my mind that it is home to Dragon Fireworks - the country's biggest fireworks maker.
It would still be the town that I used to go to whenever life in Metro Manila becomes toxic. Good thing that I have good friends who have invited me to their homes with open arms. Bulacan Provincial Board Member Atty. Emily Isidro-Viceo & former Mayor Boy have remained close with me through the years. Municipal Councilor Alvin Violago was a friend since San Beda days and has continually invited me to train and sit as a judge in the Hari at Reyna ng San Rafael for years now. They're not only friends - they're family in San Rafael. After the pandemic, if invited again, I would not have second thoughts of going back again.
